DIY Style Farm Wedding | Hackettstown NJ

We photographed this unique DIY style wedding at Matt’s childhood home on a farm located in the beautiful and scenic Hackettstown New Jersey on a late summer day. We arrived, greeted at our car by the family dog, with preparations still underway as tractors were moved and family created bouquets from flowers found right in the many fields of the farm. Laura and the bridesmaids were getting ready in the living room of the colonial style home while the guys relaxed in the cottage. After a touching first look and small gift exchange, we walked throughout the farm grounds and captured a huge variety of portraits in many spots with deep meaning to the couple. A small swarm of bees drawn to the super fresh bouquets interrupted the bridal party photos, but quickly were shooed away as family members clamored for photos with the couple. The outdoor ceremony took place in front of the house with stunning fields stretching far behind the couple as the sun began to set in the sky. A surprise small rain shower began, which the couple and guests took in stride with much laughter, just at the vows were and exchanged and and ended right with the kiss. As a band of childhood friends began to play many folk favorites, guests carried back their seats and grabbed some appetizers from a cocktail hour spread of fresh cheese and fruits. Though there was music and dancing, this reception featured something for every personality to ensure it was for all in attendence. From amazing tacos catered from Asbury Park, to a bean bag toss and beach chairs, a photobooth on a century old tractor, a fire pit, and a speakeasy style shot shack. As the night wore on, fireworks were launched into the air bursting into an explosion of light. It was clear family and friends all had an amazing time on this beautiful wedding day and it was an honor to capture it.

We always look forward to photographing both traditional and non-traditional weddings and engagements in the many unique towns of the rural areas of New Jersey and the many parks, farms, and venues among it.
